My background is academic — I studied Law (LLB (Acc) from University of Edinburgh and taught in London high schools, having graduated in Politics & Modern History at the University of Manchester and with a PGCE from the Institute of Education in London.
Before teaching, I worked in marketing for homelessness NGO The Big Issue, training sales teams in Japan where I also lived for three years, studying Aikido and teaching English.
I have always had a curiousity about human potential and spirituality and a belief in the importance of community and of spaces where people can grow together.
As I reflect back I see a Golden Thread from working for social justice, to facilitating spaces of safety, inclusion and growth for London teens, to teaching yoga and holding different kinds of sacred healing spaces from men's work, to community singing circles and shamanic rituals.
Discovering meditation in my early 20s saved me from a period of deep depression. Since then, I have studied many arts, which have enhanced my life: yoga, breathwork, martial arts.
Recent passions include Contact Improv Dance and writing poetry - this is a video of my main teachers of CI from whom I have learned so much and who inspired me to write the song used in the film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1GPjqxbi-o .
Contact Improv and plant medicines are among the best cures for being British I have found!
I believe the healing and nourishing power of our own creative life force cannot be overestimated. Your creativity might be fulfilled in your work, in expressive arts or both. Creativity is what we are born to do! Otherwise we stagnate and become passive consumers and mute witnesses of life.
